TV mounting on concrete block in Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Wellington

Many South Florida homes have concrete block walls, especially exterior walls and older homes. A TV can go up on block just as securely as on drywall over studs. It just takes the right drill, the right anchors and a little more time.

How to tell if your wall is concrete block

  • Knock on it. Block sounds solid and dull, with no hollow spots between studs.
  • It is an outside wall of the house. In much of Palm Beach County, exterior walls are block covered with stucco outside and furring strips or drywall inside.
  • A stud finder beeps everywhere, or nowhere. Thin furring strips over block confuse most stud finders.
  • Not sure? Send us a photo of the wall when you book, and tell us whether it is an outside wall.

How we mount a TV on block

  • A hammer drill and masonry bits, sized to the anchor, so the hole is clean and tight.
  • Anchors made for masonry, such as concrete screws or sleeve anchors, rated well above the weight of your TV and bracket.
  • Into the solid part of the block, not the mortar joint or a hollow core, so the anchors grip properly.
  • Level and tested: we check the bracket is level, hang the TV, and test tilt or swing before we leave.

What about the cables?

Block walls are solid, so cables usually cannot run inside the wall like they can in drywall. Most customers choose a slim, paintable cord cover from the TV down to the outlet. Running wire inside a block wall, or adding a new outlet behind the TV, is electrician work, and we will tell you if that is what you need.

Common questions

Can a heavy TV really hang on concrete block?

Yes. Block holds a TV very well when the right masonry anchors go into the solid part of the block. We use anchors rated well above the weight of the TV and bracket.

Do I buy the bracket?

Yes. You buy the bracket that suits your TV and your wall, and we mount it. Check that it is rated for your TV size and weight. Not sure which one? Call us with the TV model and we will tell you what to look for.

Will you leave holes if I move the TV later?

Removing a bracket leaves small anchor holes that can be patched and painted. We can do that as part of a visit.

Is there a trip fee in Jupiter or Wellington?

No. There is no trip fee anywhere in our service area, including Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter and Wellington.
